30 years of electrochemistry at Ruhr University Bochum – a scientific journey

In 1996 electrochemistry was started at the Faculty of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Ruhr University Bochum mainly exploring bioelectrochemistry and using electrochemical microscopy tools to develop in-depth understanding of electron transfer processes at interfaces. The scope widened and after some time electrocatalysis for important reactions for energy conversion, nano- and microelectrochemistry in corrosion, batteries were added and complemented by tools for high-throughput electrochemistry and high-throughput materials discovery. This was only possible due to very fruitful national and international cooperations and the many PhD students and PostDocs who contributed and went further to industry or academia building their own groups and research fields. This symposium will span this bridge from bioelectrochemistry to catalyst discovery, from high-resolution microelectrochemistry and confinement to alternative anode reactions in electrolyzers. The program consists of about 30 invited oral presentations by international experts with special links to electrochemistry at Ruhr University Bochum.
